Friday Favorites...Vol #7

Hello loves. TGIF!

It's been yet another long week but at least we've had nice weather for the last couple of days.

My week has had some great moments as well as some not so great moments so I'm going to jump right into it!

Here goes....

I helped my girlfriend with her daughter's bday party and here are some of the cutesy favors that were given out.  You can read all about the party here.

I finally finished this book-Off the Chain by Candice Dow-all about the life of a call girl named London...I loves me a raunchy novel!!

Eating my mother's homemade chili while studying for an exam...#priceless

What girl doesn't like chocolate covered strawberries!?  These arrived at my job on Tuesday morning. Hmmm...I wonder who they're from!!??

Last but not least-and might I warn you that this is not so much one of my favorite moments but I feel that this story needs to be told.

I lost a dear friend of mine on Tuesday. He had a fatal heart condition and due to some mistakes early on in his life he ended up being incarcerated. While there, his condition worsened and though his family tried everything in their power to get him pardoned so that he could receive a heart transplant, they were unsuccessful. He passed on without being able to see his friends or family-all because America's penal system is corrupt and heartless. Again, I say that this may not be one of my favorite moments but his story needs to be heard. Read all about it here.

Savin' Maven Monday: The Truth Hurts...

Happy Monday loves!

Did you guys have an awesome weekend?

Mine was great! I spent it with one of my girlfriends as we celebrated her daughter's 7th bday. You know how you have that one friend you can count on to be your right hand man when you're overwhelmed with tasks-well I was that friend this weekend. We started the day with a bowling party and ended it with a super sleepover hotel party. What a way to bring in your 7th bday huh? I don't ever remember having a bday so elaborate. Even in my adult days, I've always wanted to have a huge party, but since my day will always fall on 4th of July weekend, I'm usually able to enjoy the other festivities that are going on.

Since I knew that I was literally going to be 'on the go', I opted for flat shoes--again. Maybe when the weather breaks, I will experiment more with heels, but for now, I'm all about comfort and warmth.

Can you guess which piece is thrifted? Scroll down to see!

I'm so glad that the weather turned out to be nice otherwise I would've never gotten away with these patterned tights and shorts.

I had no idea how much my shorts were 'shredding' but I guess that adds a little more edge to the outfit--and I'm perfectly fine with edge!

I chose simple accessories because I knew I would be around lots of little ones so I didn't want to go 'all the way' overboard!

Boots-Dolce Vita (Target)

Though the kids had a ball and probably didn't notice the amount of rudeness that was being dished to us by our waitress during bowling, I was actually taken aback. It wasn't my fault that she was overwhelmed and obviously couldn't handle her share. I personally don't care what you have going on, as a paying customer, I expect to receive the same level of customer service as a party of two who isn't as demanding. At times when she thought she was being nice and trying to make 'funnies' it came across as horrible sarcasm and it made my skin crawl.

Vest-Thrifted/Turtleneck-Thrifted (Merona)

As we were wrapping up, the waitress, her name was Kris-something (Kris-tal, Kris-tine, Kris-tin), decided to have a conversation with me about how the managers usually gave her the larger parties because she was the only one that could 'handle them'. In the back of my mind, I'm thinking, "Bitch please get over yourself, you sucked. And if you are his idea of someone who can handle large parties, he should quit now because he's doing a disservice to the company."  I was just waiting for the right opportunity to nicely express all of my thoughts to her.

Shorts-Thrifted & DIY'ed (GAP)

And then......she asked, "So how do you think my service was?"  I jumped for joy on the inside all the while looking at her kinda sideways because I didn't really think that she wanted my honest opinion. So I politely folded my arms, like this:

and gracefully told her that her attitude sucked and I was very displeased with our service. Needless to say, she didn't look my way for the remainder of the party. I really am a nice person, but I'm also extremely honest. I don't believe in asking for the truth, if I know that I'm not capable of handling it. Hell, the truth hurts sometimes!!!

Just like it hurt when I noticed that I had a huge hole in my tights after I had gone the whole day thinking I looked decent! OUCH!!

So I'm curious as to your approach when it comes to telling the truth-whether in friendships, relationships, or just in general. Do you fabricate just a little to make it sound better or do you find it better to just tell it like it is?

Can't wait to hear your opinions.

Friday Favorites...Vol #6

Happy Friday loves!!!

I am soooo glad it's time for the weekend. It's been one long week.

But...here are a few things that made me smile.

Though the passing of Mrs. Whitney Houston was very untimely, I was glad to see that she is still being honored and recognized within elementary schools for Black History Month. Regardless of her struggles with drugs, the children will still be able to say that she was an important African American figure.

RIP Whitney Houston

My 7 year old waitress. I'm still on the fence about this one. She was adorable and might I add that she was a very great waitress but this goes against every Child Labor Law in America. *I bet money that she will be part owner of this restaurant by the time she reaches 16*

My new motto-courtesy of Target!

New cosmetics!

Garnet Gems-Milani

Grape Splash Wetslicks-CoverGirl

Duke University's Basketball Schedule. After seeing Austin Rivers score the game winning 3-pointer against UNC-Chapel Hill, I'm a lifelong fan.

Thrifted decorations that will be used for future DIY projects. I can't wait!!

Homemade Valentine's

What are some of the things that made you smile this week?

WOTS: Enjoy the Show...

Happy Hump Day loves!

Did everyone have a super romantic Valentine's Day? This is the first year in a long while that it felt like just another day for me. I guess that attitude comes along with getting older and not expecting as much from people. Flowers, cards, and candy are great gestures but I don't feel like those things should be limited to one day. Love, compassion, and romance should be expressed year round. Because if not, then I begin to question the realness of it all.

Scarf-Express (Men's Section)

Go the extra mile and do the unexpected, ya know!! Not just on one day, but everyday!

Enough of the mushy stuff; let's talk about this outfit.

I wore it a while back to a concert-Marsha Ambrosious to be exact. When going to concerts or any type of event where I will be standing for an extended period of time, I like to take my feet into consideration-that, my friends, is the reason why you have seen me in more flats in alot of my recent outfit posts. I also tried to remind myself of the fact that there wouldn't be any coat storage so I dressed in layers and threw on this thrifted Zara blazer for extra warmth.

'Clatchel'-Old Navy
I threw my hair up in a messy ponytail so that I wouldn't be so hot inside of the venue. Damn trying to be cute, I wanted to be comfortable and enjoy the show.

This blazer is one of my favorite thrifting finds. I had started to put her back on the rack because I had just thrifted a similar corduroy blazer a couple of weeks before but when I noticed the leather detailing and the elbow patches I held onto this baby for dear life. Classic pieces like these remain in your closet forever and for only $2.98 why NOT!!??

The red glasses are THEE statement piece in this outfit. Not to mention that I can't see 2 feet in front of me without them. I'm not a phony y'all...I really do need them!! They were purchased a while back from GlassesUnlimited where all frames are $9.99. You just fill in your prescription and after taxes and shipping you have yourself a sweet pair of specs for all of 15 bucks.

Needless to say, I was super comfy during the concert and I enjoyed every moment of Marsha.

How do you dress for concerts?

EBEW & BDIB: All This Love for Cheap...

Happy Monday loves!

I hope you all have a marvelous weekend. Mine was jam packed with goodness. On Saturday night I went to see the super hilarious Kevin Hart with a couple of my girlfriends. I tried to get pictures of us all but it was way too cold out. Though dinner was a little awkward because we had just gotten the news of Whitney Houston's passing, we did have a great time at the show. Lemme tell you-I genuinely LAUGHED MY A$$ OFF! I hate forced laughter and on Saturday that was not the case AT ALL! We hollered and cried thee whole night!

In honor of Valentine's Day, I decided to do some very serious color blocking. I'm sure the fit would have been 'over the top' with some fierce pumps, but being that it was bone-chilling, snow on the ground cold, I decided to go for flat, biker boots.

We ended up having to park in the last row of the parking lot, so I'm actually glad that I did wear flats. I wish that each of you could've witness the horrible fashion misses though. Never mind that it was minus1000 degrees outside, these heifers still had on mini skirts (sans tights) and sky-high stilettos. And they tipped in the cold looking as simple as simple gets. I just laughed at them and yelled rude obscenities (ie-"stupid hoe, tryna look cute but I know you're cold") as I literally ran past them with my flats on. I love me some heels but I tried to take into consideration the fact that there would be alot of walking and alot more cold weather.

What's a diva if she's not comfortable!?

Do you think the flat boots worked or would you have rather seen heels?

In all of my years, I had never thought to pair pink with red but I love how it turned out. I had so much fun with this. I paired it with gold arm candy and a gold and pink statement necklace. I also painted my nails with 'Garnet Gems' by Milani-it didn't photograph really well but it has a black undertone with red metallic sparklies throughout.

I will be linking my outfit to this months EverybodyEverywear and BloggersDoItBetter challenges. You should link up as well. It will be great fun.

What are your plans for Valentine's Day? My 'special someone' is miles and miles away from me right now but I'm hoping to at least be able to talk to him at some point during the day.  Uggh Valentine's Day is soooo overrated. I'm gonna smile anyhow!

Oh, before I forget-please, please, please make sure to follow me on Twitter and Facebook for more great savings and hilarious updates. I'm also on Bloglovin' as well as Pinterest so check me out there as well.
